With the object of meeting the needs of Industries, Offices, Commercial establishments, Educational / Training Institutes for Stenographers, Personal / Private Secretaries, Stenography Teachers, etc,. Diploma course in Commercial Practice was started from the year 1992-93 with an intake of 30 students. This has provided an opportunity to the eligible disabled persons to occupy those positions mentioned above. The duration of the course is 3 years (six semesters) and the medium of instruction is English . Matriculation (or equivalent) passed Orthopaedically disabled candidates are eligible for admission to this course.

Visually impaired students are also admitted from the year 2003-04.In future short term course are also planned for Visually impaired.

The various subjects which are related to commercial activities like Accountancy, Commerce, Business Management, Office Management, Income and sales Tax, Secretarial Practice, Shorthand, Typewriting, Arithmetic and Statistics are taught. Since, Computer has become a part of life now-a-days, the computer subjects on MS-Office, E-commerce, Internet have also been introduced in the revised curriculum which has increased the job potential of the Commercial Practice Diploma holders. After the diploma the candidates can go for employment or can pursue higher education by joining degree courses in commerce.

The Department is well equipped with various modern office equipments and full fledged Computer Center exclusively for this Department to train students in the latest application packages.. It has qualified and trained staff to provide effective training to the disabled students.

The Department is also involved in Continuing Education Programmes for Polytechnic Teachers, curriculum development and training programmes for unemployed youth in association with Community Polytechnic a wing of this institution.
